CARE GUIDE:
Our dining, desk, bedroom, wall, and occasional collections are built using lumber, metals, and stone from around the world. Each artfully designed piece showcases unique features and finishes that tell a story of expert craftsmanship. Artisan-crafted furnishings made from natural wood with hand-applied finishes may vary in colour, pattern, shape, and texture, making each truly unique. The Table Label finishes may change over time, and natural wood may display small splits, knots, joint lines, or other features that will add character to your piece without affecting its quality or performance.
Furniture made from natural wood may move slightly as temperature and humidity cause the wood to expand and contract. This is normal and should be expected from season to season.
Ensure your furniture sits in a level position to ensure the longevity of your piece, as frames tend to warp if standing on an uneven surface. Recommended care for wood furnishings may vary depending on the type of wood and finishes applied to each surface.
Our wood furnishings are sealed with lacquer, adding a protective (but not indestructible) barrier, and can be easily spot-cleaned using a mild soap, water, and a soft undyed cloth as needed. Dry immediately to prevent marks from forming.
Occasionally dust lacquered wood surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and non-wax furniture polish to keep finishes looking their best.
For best results, follow use instructions for all cleaning products carefully. Do not over apply.
To prevent moisture damage (like water rings), wipe up spills immediately with a soft, dry, undyed cloth.
Do not clean using abrasives, harsh, corrosive chemicals, or care products containing ammonia or silicone, as these could damage finishes and surfaces.
Gently polish glass components with glass cleaner. Wipe clean with a soft cloth.
Avoid placing indoor furnishings in direct sunlight or near sources of heat or moisture, as this could cause cracking or changes in finishes.
When assembling new wood furnishings, avoid over tightening hardware as this could cause cracking.
Never place hot dishes directly on wood surfaces as this could cause scorching. Similarly, prolonged use of hot electrical equipment may also cause scorching.
Protect surfaces from incidental marks (like scratching, scorching, and water marks) by using coasters, trivets, felt pads, and non-plastic mats.
Lift wood furniture when moving. Do not drag, as this could loosen joinery and damage your piece.
MANGO WOOD
- Cleaning your mango wood:
When cleaning, try to avoid damp cloths and liquid – which can cause discolouration. The best option for cleaning is to wipe with a clean dry cloth, and then wipe again with a cloth coated in beeswax or varnish. Over time, as it soaks into the wood, you won’t need to use as much wax or varnish.
- Coat your furniture:
Because it’s a tropical plant, it’s used to humid environments and so can dry out and crack if not coated often. Use edible oils such as olive or coconut oil for items like cutting boards, kitchen counters, or anything else that may have food touching it.
Mineral oils are a great way to coat furniture legs, table tops, and other pieces of furniture that won’t immediately be touching food.
Once you’ve finished coating your mango wood in oils, use a beeswax finish to seal in the oils and give the mango wood a natural looking sheen that brings out all of its dynamic colours.
Keep your furniture coated with a protectant like beeswax or furniture polish to avoid the possibility of any water stains or scratches. You can also use mineral and edible oils to coat your mango wood.
- Use place mats and coasters for hot drinks and dishes:
Hot drinks and dishes can cause condensation when placed on a table. This condensation can warp your mango wood over time. To avoid this issue, make sure you use coasters and place mats when placing any hot dishes on your tables.
- Avoid exposure to liquids:
Just as any condensation can warp your mango wood, any liquid spills can have the same, or worse effects. Clean up any spill immediately with a towel and avoid any alcohol, deodorants or perfumes.
- Keep out of direct sunlight:
Sunlight has the possibility of fading your mango wood furniture. It’s best to keep it in a fully shaded area. Although this can sometimes be impossible, and so if you must place your mango wood in direct sunlight, try to rotate it often so that it gets an equal amount of light on each side.
- Don’t place it next to fireplaces or radiators:
Back to the “tropical plant” subject. Radiators and fireplaces will dry out your mango wood, causing cracks and warps over time. Keep your mango wood away from areas of the house that get too warm.
- Seal scratches and stains with wax or varnish:
As soon as you notice scratches or stains on your mango wood, seal them up with a varnish so that it doesn’t dry out in that area!
By opting for these easy to follow care instructions, you can keep your furniture new and add life to it. Wood furniture can last for generations if proper care is taken of it.
ACACIA WOOD:
Acacia wood is susceptible to heat and moisture, so acacia wood protection to minimize contact with those things helps prolong the furniture’s life. As part of acacia wood table care, wipe wet spots or spills immediately to prevent water damage. Alcohol, perfume, and similar products can suck moisture out of acacia wood, so keep them away from the table and wipe up spills quickly. Using placemats helps prevent moisture and food from reaching the wood table.
Choose an ideal spot for your acacia wood furniture away from extreme heat or sunlight, which can warp the wood. Position it away from heat vents, fireplaces, and similar heat-generating features. Move it away from windows where sunlight could regularly hit the furniture.
Avoid using any harsh tools as they can cause scratches on your table. Do not use a detergent containing ammonia or silicon as they can cause cracks on your wood table.
